Labor is not only traumatic for the gestational parent, but for your baby as well. Less than ideal fetal positioning in-utero or during birth (vaginal or cesarean) can create irritation and stress on our body. Even a normal, healthy birth can create 40-50 pounds of pressure on the infant's neck and spine. Pediatric chiropractic care is safe and effective method for relieving pain and correcting normal neuromusculoskeletal conditions.
Since childbirth can come with spinal trauma, we suggest considering an adjustment after birth. Subsequent appointments should be scheduled as your baby reaches a new developmental phase such as holding up their head, rolling over, crawling, starting to stand independently, and trying to walk. The aforementioned milestones are achievable only when the spinal curves are mature enough to build adequate muscle strength to withstand the force brought on by such activities. If your child is struggling to achieve the next milestone, limited spinal and/or extremity movement may be a contributing factor.
Pediatric care can also help with things such as:
There is no minimum age for chiropractic care. Dr. Danielle Smith & Dr. Brooke Earley have experience adjusting infants as young as 3 days old.
Chiropractic care is safe for babies. No "cracks", also known as cavitations, are heard when adjusting young patients. The amount of force used to perform a pediatric adjustment is very gentle and looks similar to checking the ripeness of a tomato or avocado!
